Phone Number disappeared iMessage

Today I noticed that my mac was no longer recieving messages directed to my phone number. I opened up the iMessage settings in iMessage and its no longer listing the number as an option.

Hi,

Check the iPhone is listing it as an option.

If it is not ticked then remove the Apple ID and then close the iMessages part.

Restart iMessages on the iPhone and add the Apple ID.

Both Number and Apple ID will now be ticked.

Restart Messages on the Mac.

You will now get a notification/alert that the iPhone is going to be using the iPhone Number and Apple ID and do yo want to Add them (yes or no).

(Actually either lists them but only the Accept option ticks them to make them active.)

Hi Ralph,

I have tried this option and nothing seems to be working. So far have done a hard reset of the phone about 4 times, tried deleting the Apple Id from the Send/Receive part and adding it again like you mentioned. However, even when I restart Messages the number still is greyed out and there is only the option of ticking my email address for send/receive.

Any other suggestions? Should I do a complete reboot of the device?

Thanks,

Perzen

Hi,

I used the stated method on my second iPhone as it tried to link the ID I used there and the iPhone number to sync with the Messages app on my Mac which I did not want.

The process of removing the Apple ID, waiting then shutting down (Airplane Mode or turning off Messages to break link with server) the iPhone or Messages and then restarting Messages and checking Send and Receive showed the iPhone Number as ticked (but still greyed out).

Adding the Apple ID and then restarting the app on the Mac produced the Alerts from the server that the iPhone was going to using the Apple ID and iPhone number of which you can Accept or Deny.

This happens from time to time.... (why is why I keep an email listed with imessage). I will notice that I have no phone number listed on my mac or iPad..... go to my phone and see that my number is uncheacked and greyed out..... I have tried turning off imessage and back on all my devices..... but still nothing. I then go into settings and "Rest Network settings" ....... Problem fixed!

Not sure if its a newtwork issue or an imessage issue..... but resting the nework settings fixes the problem!!!!

Hi,

It seems there are at least two ways to do this.

HI,

The original Question is about why the iPhone Number does not appear on the settings on the Mac version of Messages.

As you don't have a Mac you don't have the problem.

If you mean that the iPhone is using an Apple ID but is not showing the iPhone number as ticked and active they try removing the apple ID and waiting to see if the iPhone number becomes ticked.

If not then put the iPhone in Airplane mode.

On taking it out of Airplane mode go to Settings > Messages > Send and Receive and see if it is ticked.

Where littlekelli'e "Reset Network Settings" option is I have no idea.

Hi,

I gathered that is where you meant but I can't see it meaning I am not looking in the right place.

Please light up your torch and shine it on the signpost for a blind old man 😉
