Emoji problem...

I've turned my emoji keyboard on. However, when I press the globe icon it shuts the message app down. This first occurred on my 3GS. I thought it might repair itself on my 4. And, again on my 5. But, the issue is still there. Anyone else had this issue? What can I do to fix this?
