aperture project displays fewer versions than are in the project

aperture project sees 1,043 versions when you click on the title of the project, but only displays 148 items in the viewer display. I have tried generating new thumbnails as well as updating previews. I have also tried "repair library" no luck. Any thoughts on how to see the rest of my photos? they were all masters imported from an iphone.

the iphone was out of space when I imported, and Aperture eventually hung for about 16 hours. It froze the computer completely. When I shut down and restarted this was the symptom.

clicking on photo title shows 1,048 versions, but the Browser shows 148 (and says 148 items displayed at the bottom).

Help please.
