In the old iTunes it was very simple to change album artwork. if you added songs yourself you could just drag and drop any image you wanted into the preview album artwork that was on the bottom left side in iTunes.
cant figure out how to work it now? any suggestions?

It's still there but a little more hidden now!
What you need to do is highlight all the tracks in an album, like before, but then press Cmd+I or 'get info'. With the main get info box up, (with album name, artist name, year etc) you will see an album artowrk box on the right. Images can be dragged and dropped to this in the old way, same as the cover preview worked in iTunes 10. A little more fiddly but still just about works!
