How do I combine wifi and ethernet connections

I recently bought my Apple TV 3rd gen and upgraded it straight away to 5.1.

I can connect to the internet (Netflix, iTunes Store, Youtube etc.) when using both ethernet and wifi (apparently no ethernet issue).

But homesharing only works if both my MacBook (Mountain Lion) and Apple TV are connected to the same network source - either wifi or ethernet. Homesharing does not work if I connect my macbook to wifi and Apple TV to ethernet or the other way around. Seems like wifi and ethernet are two seperate networks.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

(This might be a setup issue regarding my router, a D-Link Hardware ver. D1, Firmware ver. 4.00, but some of you may have more insigt into this topic.)

I have now checked - they are on the same network for sure.

I plugged in the ethernet cable as the first thing in the ATV (MacBook running on wifi) and it worked for the first time!? Strange... But not for long 😟

I looked some pictures via homesharing for about 10 minuts, then watched some Youtube - after returning to home screen the homesharing had stopped working...

I switched it off and back on on the ATV - same same.

I switched in off and back on i iTunes - it worked again...! Hmmm... strange!

Then I tried to use AirPlay mirroring (which ran without problems with both devices on wifi) I now got Error -6722, could not connect to Apple TV (Homesharing still working)... and network addresses for both devices remain the same.

Do you have an idea what is going on?

Update:

So it seems that iTunes 11 loses connection and needs to be restarted - or at least Homesharing turned off / on. I can see I'm not the only one with this issue...

I tried a restore of Apple TV - no change at all.

I unplugged ethernet from Apple TV (MacBook still running on wifi) - now Airplay Mirroring works spotless.

Also when both MacBook and Apple TV are hard-wired to router, everything works.

(With my macbook hard-wired to router and Apple TV on Wifi, nothing works... No Homresharing, no mirroring.)

The problem is that lion and mountain lion don't have the option to disable Ipv6, so you have to go to terminal and give the following commands:

networksetup -setv6off ethernet

networksetup -setv6off wi-fi

hit enter after each line and you will be asked to give your pasword after each command. Then restart the machine, look again into the network options just to see that Ipv6 is disabled and the airplay will work with no problem.

The router has been restarted several times during this testing...

@doctor_no: We are almost there, but: The airplay mirroring still crashes when ATV is hard-wired and Mac on wifi. And after first attempt (Mac looks like going into mirroring mode, but quits after 5-10 secs), the mirroring icon in menu bar dissapears and I have to restart to get it back...
Can you use mirroring over wifi when the ATV is hard-wired?

Ok, I give up - I simply give up...

I got it to work - mirroring and everything after a restart... Then I disabled mirroring, fooled a little on the web, turned mirroring on, and it couldn't connect. And after a failed attempt to connect it cannot detect other devices (in the display menu) so I do not get the mirroring-icon in the menu bar and I cannot use Airplay from iTunes. I have to do a system restart to restore this.

But I can access my library from the "Computers" menu on ATV - so they are connected somehow...it's just a one way traffic situation.... It just doesn't make any sense!
