What version of OS X was installed on the computer when it originally arrived? If it was Snow Leopard or earlier then you can find loads of tutorial by using Google. For example here is one I located on Youtube.com

I am struggling with a decision of whether to upgrade from Snow Leopard purchased 12/2010 to Mountain Lion.

I have Snow Leopard with Idvd, have refused to upgrade to Mtn Lion because I was told there was no way that I would have iDVD be able to work with Mtn Lion.

Have had one Apple Care rep tell me his supervisor has iDVD, installed Mtn Lion and has no problems. Everyone else says no way.

Have been told iDVD was a terrible program to it was the best thing since mom's apple pie.

I intend to make bunches of DVDs from VHS tapes, from miniDV tapes, from IPhone and Android phones from Sony Camera,

I would not want to lose any functionality of IDVD.

I would not want to lose quality.

I would like seamless integration with the other Apple Programs.

I really would like what looks like, and don't know if it is, the newest Speech recognition program that comes with Mtn Lion, which looks like it takes the place of Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Anyone with practical experience using iDVD vs third party programs, the new speech recognition software?

So, is this a solution, Jeff?

Simply have Snow Leopard installed on an external hard drive with IDVD?

Purchase Mountain Lion upgrade for the IMac?

Then have both iDVD and the new voice dictation features?

iDVD works for some people and not others. When I posted this thread ours was not working, in order for it to work we had to change the date on our computer to a time before apple dropped iDVD. Now it works perfectly fine. The other application that did not work was printshop. We took it to apple and everything this was the only thing that fixed it.

Easiest way to downgrade from Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard. (NOTE: - there are probably a number of ways to downgrade. Most of what I read said there was no way to do this. I'm not sure what to say about that. I was running Snow Leopard for about a year. I upgraded to Mountain Lion (DID NOT LIKE IT AT ALL). My TIME MACHINE backup ran a cycle after I installed the new Mountain Lion. This made the backup useless for downgrading back to Snow Leopard. I did not care and was prepared to reinstall Snow Leopard and start over with no emails or Safari Bookmarks - that's how much I disliked Mountain Lion! But I figured out a better way that saves your Safari Bookmarks and your emails. WARNING - YOU WILL NEED TO RESET ALL YOUR SETTINGS AND PASSWORDS AFTER THIS PROCEDURE. *** HERE'S HOW - 1. FROM SAFARI - EXPORT BOOKMARKS to an external drive (a drive other than the one where your system software is). This file will automatically be named "Safari Bookmarks.html". 2. FROM MAIL - EXPORT MAILBOXES, again to an external drive other than the one with your system software is. Each mailbox file will automatically have a ".MBOX" after it. 3. FROM YOUR USERS FOLDER - find the Pictures folder. Inside find the "iPhoto Library" file. Copy this file to your external drive as well. 4. Insert your Snow Leopard install disk. Open disk utility. Choose ERASE DISK (Scary huh!). My machine would not allow me to install Snow Leopard over Mountain Lion, that's why you must first erase your drive. 5. Install Snow Leopard. Now your computer is like new running Snow Leopard. 6. From SAFARI - IMPORT BOOKMARKS - you got it, import the bookmark file you exported earlier. 7. From MAIL - IMPORT MAILBOXES. 8. I tried to replace the new "iPhoto Library" with the one I copied earlier but the new Snow Leopard iPHOTO would not open it. However, I was able to open the file in Preview and then you can "Save As" each photo to a folder then import it again into the new iPHOTO. CONCLUSION - This procedure will give you back your Snow Leopard and even though you will not be able to use the migration or set up assistant like you normally would when changing your system software, you will still retain your emails and bookmarks and photos. Good luck.
