Prepaid data providers in Germany for iPad mini (AT&T)?

Hello- I am going to be traveling in Germany with my new iPad mini WiFi + Cellular (AT&T) and don't want to buy the international data package from AT&T. I speak German, have a brother who lives in Germany and has an address I can use with the prepaid data plan. Which iPad mini prepaid plans do you recommend?

In any case prepaid 3G data plans which do NOT rely on SMS text messaging for balance top-up or balance checks.

The iPad Mini can NOT receive or send SMS text messages by design - even with a 3G cellular modem onboard and a nanosim card with cellular number.

By far most prepaid 3G data packages use SMS text messaging for balance control.

About Germany : Some mobile phone shops ask for proof of German residency and will not sell a prepaid simcard to foreigners. Just move on and try elsewhere, i used O2 and T-mobile by only showing my (non-German) passport.

For cellular provider who have no dedicated ipad prepaid 3G simcard - chances are you need a simcard adapter to be able to receive the activation SMS text message or top-up balance with a regular mobile cellphone.

I had to use a nanosimcard adapter to activate my account for T-mobile (europe) receiving the account password by SMS in a regular cellphone. Afterwards i could top-up iPad balance in the t-mobile account.
