Hi, i am also facing the same problem --my iTunes does not open. I browse through all the suggestions and installed the necessary software. At first my iTunes could not opened due to missing files. Then i discovered it was the QuickTime Player. It gave me a error code of -3 so i went to install the QuickTime player ver 7 ( standalone). Then after i installed QuickTime player, it could open and it was great. But i still could not open iTunes. This time, no message pops out, nothing. I try clicking many times but nothing.
Can someone please help me, becasue i am so eager to update my iPod!!

hi enquires!

some preliminary questions.

if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?

or are you seeing a brief "flash" of the itunes license screen (and then nothing)? if so, do you also see similar behavior when you try to launch your QuickTime?

That is exactly what has been happening to me for about two weeks now. I didn't know it had to do with Norton 2005 though. Can I get any help and fast? Thanks!

hi Julescfc!

Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close

the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.

try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?

if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall.

download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer

if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?

(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

just checking. do you mean that you tried the Lorraine M technique:

Lorraine M: NIS/itunes problem rectified

but you still have the launch failure problem?

or do you mean that you didn't think it was worth trying?
