Canon iR2016 error 50

hi, Guys, I have the issue with my network printer Canon ir2016 which works fine under windows, but I can't install it on mac correctly.

I've installed this drivers http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8200620400.html

then added the printer by this dialog (unfortunatelly by IP it not recognizes):

User uploaded file

then selected features of printer:

User uploaded file

When trying to print from Safari - getting the next warning:

User uploaded file

After clicking OK button - getting this error message:

User uploaded file

Tried to open printer information from this window:

User uploaded file

but nothing happens after click on the button (no hanging or something, button is staying clickable, but nothing happens).

First time i've installed this driver http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0030713_0010245.asp?model= as Canon proposes by google request "canon ir2016 mac driver", but there wasn't even my printer model in 'Add printer' system dialogue , so I found another driver on AU website - v2.41, but hasn't helped too.

I would appreciate if someone could give a suggestion how to solve it.

Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You cannot use the UFR2 driver via a Windows shared queue. The UFR2 wants to communicate with the printer, which is cannot do via the Windows share.

So you will have to add it using IP > LPD for the protocol. The iR2016 does not support Bonjour, so if you know its IP address, select the IP icon instead of the Windows icon in the Add Printer window, enter the IP address and select LPD for the protocol. Then you can select the iR2016 UFRII LT driver in the Use menu as you have done before. Now with the connection using LPD you should be able to print from the Mac.

Thanks for reply, PAHU. I've read about adding by IP, but have no success by this approach. Here is the problem:

the printer is connected to the file server through lan

so I've tried to add printer by IP - i executed 'ping fileserver' and get it's IP, then i type it to the window below:

User uploaded file

when pressed 'add' I got this error:

User uploaded file

i suppose the name should looks like '192.168.176.12\Canon-ir2016' but everything i tried returns the message 'Invalid or incomplete adress'

if that is my problem - maybe you can give an example how the correct name should looks like when connecting by ip?

the same behavior when trying to connect by fileservername.xxx.xx.xx

tried to add with 'Windows' button, but with PCL driver - no errors, shows as available, and sends documents to printer correctly, but nothing happens - documents sent, but printer not prints it (no errors on it's display present though)

I've tried to add by different names with different drivers,

when i use UFR driver I got an error:

User uploaded file

when I use PCL or GPP it just marking printer as 'in use', but nothing going on:

User uploaded file

maybe some logs would be helpful for you to answer?

BTW: I found sometimes there is an error while trying to reply - just using 'Advanced editor' solves it

so we turned LPD on, but it still doesn't print(

i tried to use different IP that i found in windows printer setup( it's 192.168.176.10 but admin still told me that *.*.*.12 is correct IP)

tried to use different drivers, connecting by LPD.

still having this error while adding:

User uploaded file

then trying to print test page:

GPP and PCL just reports that the printer is 'In Use'

UFR reports about the error and pauses the job

User uploaded file

I added log on background...

NOTE: Still having problem with sending reply here - use "Advanced editor" if you have the same issue

The iR2016 does not support Postscript, so when you quote GPP I assume you mean Generic Postscript Printer, therefore this is not going to work.

But the machine does support PCL5/6. So since UFR2 is not working you could create the queue using Generic PCL. Also, instead of using LPD or IPP, select HP Jetdirect-Socket on the Mac. The UFR2 driver only supports LPD but the machine supports RAW Port 9100 connections and this is what Windows will use by default. And on the Mac, HP Jetdirect-Socket is another name for RAW Port 9100.

Some other notes.

1. You mention connecting to the web interface of the iR2016. Therefore this confirms the correct IP address the machine has set. So if IT says it is 192.168.176.12, does entering this in a web browser connect to the internal web page of the iR2016?

2. After enabling LPD the copier needs to be turned off and then back on again for the change to take effect.

3. For the UFR2 queue to be created correctly, the UFRII Backgrounder process needs to be running. You can check this via Activity Monitor. Also, if you open System Information, select Printers in the left column and then the iR2016 printer that is using the UFR2 driver, the bottom right pane will give information about the connection. Of importance is the print queue URI. It should show something like:

cntdbmu://MCD_UFR2_LPR/iR2016_UFR2/lpd://192.168.176.12/

What do you have set for the URI?
