How To Record Controller Change data into Logic from Reason using Rewire?

Hello all! Follow me here: How do you record the live changing of panning or volume or filters or so on in Reason while the music note data is playing in Logic and record that live data with the note data to where it all works together in Logic... so you can later go back to listen to the track in Logic and hear your notes with the expression you just recorded with them (changes in volume, panning, pitch bend, etc.)

I have rewire working and everything. But Logic will not allow me to record these changes I want to make to the notes. I put Logic in record then I'll bend the pitch in Reason. It works while I'm recording, but when I go back to play it, NOTHING happens. The notes are still the same....

Thank you & I'm sorry if this has already been asked. I cannot find the answer. ~ Deb

You should be able to easily record CC changes (filter effects...etc...) in Logic while you are recording.

Are you routing all your midi through Logic? i.e., don't directly route your midi via Reason. Make sure everything is getting sent (and recording to) Logic, then make sure the info is being sent to Reason. Also, make sure that in Reason the midi keyboard icon (on the far left) in the sequencer is not selected, it should be greyed out. Having this selected will automatically route any midi signal to that device. (also... this is dependent on your Reason preferences, but I thought I would mention it).

good luck.

That's a good point. I assumed the parameters were being controlled via midi controller.

From the title of the thread, I want to clarify something: You only send midi to Reason and get back audio, you can't send audio , or receive midi from Reason.

Also, you can automate Reason parameters directly from Logic. This is another option.

good luck.

Okay, I still don't understand. I am actually moving
the controllers onscreen with my mouse in Reason
while having Logic in record. It's not recording my
movements in Logic.

Remember the fundamental way Rewire works. You send the Rewire slave (Reason) midi info from Logic and Reason sends back audio. By controlling filters directly with a mouse in Reason, you are changing the audio that is being sent to Logic, not the midi info. When you do this you kinda bypassing Logic all together. If you want to automate parameters in Reason, you can use the "Track Automate" in Logic. It will give you a list (and names) of all the parameters that you can automate. Select which one you want to automate, then draw in the automation in Logic's arrange window.
So an explicit example:

I made a Rewire track and have a Malstrom in Reason. In the "track Automation" mode in Logic, I now have "Midi Control 0-63" and "Midi Control 127" In the submenu it has a list of all the parameters names. Now draw in the value of the parameter. When you play back the track, you will see Reason responding to the automation that you've drawn in.

An alternative method is to use a midi controller and assign a CC to a particular parameter in Reason. Now it will record the notes and CC in Logic.

hope this helps.
