I would like to know what to use to have my imac be able to type my emails for me.

If you do not have 10.8 (http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/07/29/osx-mountain-lion-review-dictation/) you will need to purchase dictation software.

see if you iMac meets the specifications to run Mountain Lion 10.8. If so, then you can purchase it from the app store.
