I am unable to transfer data from my macbook to hard disks.I have tried several hard disks.

Have you initialized the external hard drives before trying to transfer files? You would use Disk Utliity to do that.

Connect the external hard drive to your mac. Bring up Disk Utility (on your hard drive in applications/utilities), choose the volume on the left, click the partition tab, choose format mac os extended (journaled), give the drive a name if you want, most choose the entire drive as one partition, ensure under options the format is GUID for Intel systems, click OK, click apply. Done.
will this delete the entire data on my expansion hard disk?

Yes, that will initialize and erase the hard drive. You didn't indicate that the drives were currently in use ...I'm guessing they are used on a Windows computer and not new?
