How to import / convert a sources.xml (ms word 2007) to pages

Dear all, does someone can help with this question?

--> I have a comprehensive sources.xml on my current win 7 pc. I will get the new iMac with pages in the next few days. So, I would like to avoid doing all that work again. Is there any chance to import / convert my XML file to pages?

Many thanks for your support!

If you are implying that the XML file originated from a 2003 MS Word app, then it is a two step process to convert and import into Pages. By preference, you can do this conversion with the free OpenOffice (MS Office compatible) suite either on Win7, or OS X Mountain Lion.

  1. Open the XML file in OpenOffice, and save as MS Word .doc or .rtf file
  2. Import .doc/.rtf into Pages on Mac

You originally asked for a way to import/convert your XML file to Pages. The Writer application within OpenOffice is the electric drill that creates the hole (file conversion) needed to get your document into Pages. It specifically lists Word 2003 XML format as a supported format.

Once the conversion is done, no one is suggesting you have to keep the drill (OpenOffice) on your PC or Mac.

I want to revisit how that sources.xml file was created in Windows 7:

  1. MS Word (2003+) using ENDNOTE to export?
  2. MS Word 2003 with save/export as a Word 2003 XML file format
  3. Another XML document generator?

The OpenOffice solution would only apply to item 2. Unfortunately, I do not have MS Word or ENDNOTE to verify.

I did however, peruse the latest ENDNOTE X6 user manual and it appears that it offers .txt or .rtf file export, and does not mention other formats. Import suggests PDF, but again, no other formats were discussed.

Is that sources.xml a ASCII text XML file or is it binary? Perhaps you will need to rename the extension to .txt to coerce import into ENDNOTE.
