The spaces disappear in my document when I open my macbook-created word doc in a PC.
Please help me with tips on how to restore the document in its original state -- with spaces separating the words.

Nothing I've ever seen - you don't say which version of Word you're using but if I were you, I'd head on over to the Microsoft Office for Mac community -> http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac.
Be sure to let them know what version you're using on your Mac and if this occurs with all versions of Word for Windows.
