file-size is of no relevance in DVD production.

and the max. length depends on the tool you're using:

iDVD supports up to 120min on a single-layer DVD.

Toast even more, but quality drops dramatically beyond 60min - imho.

I use double layer DVDs all the time. I find I can go about 3 hours and 45 min. per disc

a disk burned in Finder/Disk Utility is NOT compatible with DVDplayers!

you're creating 'just' a dataDVD, which can be used only with computers.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD. I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others. None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
