Replacing Optical Drive With Used One -- Which Will Work?

I am looking to replace my non-functioning stock DVD drive in iMac G3 400 SE (i.e., part SR-8184-B). I have been looking on eBay to find one cheap but they tend to be few and far between (and not as cheap as I would like).

Will other used optical drives pulled from same era iMacs work in my system (e.g., 24x CD-ROM, SR-8186-B) or will there be compatibility problems because of issues with the logic board, firmware or whatever?
