The 'publish' option applies only to 'On My Mac' calendars, not iCloud calendars, and produces a posted file which has to be viewed using a CalDAV server - an ordinary web server will just show it as a text file with the information layed out confusingly. Since the demise of MobileMe, which used to do this easily, there are few if any such servers (it's rather expected that you will host one yourself but this is is a rather technical matter).

However if you have a calendar on iCloud you can share it privatelyh or publicly: the latter can be seen by anyone but they need a CalDAV clients to view it - iCal is one such, and Google Calendar is another, so this is going to be your best option. They will need a Google account - effectively they subscribe to it. Please see

Thanks Roger;

I understand all the processes of iCloud etc. What I wanted to do was just go to the menu of my iCal and "Publish" a calendar to Google. But every combination of address I put in will not allow that. As I said in my second post, The only way I have found that I can do this is to create a calendar on Google (which then shows up as a blank calendar in iCal) and move my events to it in iCal.

I think that might be the only way.

You can't publish a calendar to Google because it's not a server. You have to publish to a server, like publishing a web page, but an ordinary website server won't display the file as a calendar. Google can subscribe to a published or shared calendar, so you can share an iCloud calendar and subscribe to it in Google: what you suggest is the reverse process which is just as effective.

Thanks again Roger;

I see where my limited knowledge of the terms is confusing me.

I thought the calendar WAS being published to Google. But I see now that my iCal is actually subscribing to the calendar on Google and the events get there because they are shared with the calendar on Google.

I am getting ready to go into the iPhone, iPad thing and want to setup something to share my calendar and address book with those. Just not sure I want to pay for iCloud as the new OS on my MacBook Pro and iMac would eliminate a lot of software that i currently use.

My next process will be to figure out how to share the Address Book without iCloud. My main concern is the Notes in Address Book. I need to maintain those during the sync.

I will search the Address Book community and see what I can find out.
