I can't see any "Edit" tab in the track info pane.
Am I missing something? I want to get EQ and some effects, but there isn't any tab in the Track Info pane when I show the pane. Am I missing plug-ins?

Can you post a screenshot?
Maybe your GarageBand Preferences file is broken.

It seems like the tools are there, but they're hidden. Any way I can "unhide" them?
The layout of your graphical user interface is corrupted. The layout of the user interface is stored in the user preferences file. To repair your interface, try the "Odd Ball Fix" as described in the link above:
As you probably know, the User Library is hidden since Mac OS X Lion.
You can reveal it from the Finder's "Go" menu in the main menu bar:
Finder > Go
Then hold down to options-key ⌥, until Library appears in the drop-down menu. Select it and open the Library.
