Why won't cox mail delete from server from iPhone or iPad.

After checking my mail on any of my iOS devices the messages remain on the server. I want them deleted from the Cox server so I don't have hundreds of messages on my Mac when I use that. I've tried different things in settings but nothing seems to correct it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
