my mail account has suddenly stopped receiving mail, although I can still send.

Looking in window at activity, I can see that there is connection to my server, and that the mail seems to be being imported. It is as if I just cant see it.

This happened really suddenly. I am still receiving mail on both my ipad and iphone.

MacBook Air (13-INCH, MID 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Make a new Smart Mailbox that only includes Unread Mails, do they show in that Smartbox?

    Is it POP or IMAP?

Thanks for replying. No they don't appear in a new smart mailbox.

    It is IMAP.

I had problems getting mail to work initially ( had to go to the apple shop), but has worked fine until it suddenly stopped receiving mails yesterday.

I can send with no problems.

    Any ideas ?

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.

Reboot & in Mail highlight that account & use Rebuild under the Mailbox menu item.
