Aperture Serial Number

I recently purchased a new Macbook Pro. I used the migration assistant and transferred all data from a Time Machine backup. Everything seems to be working just fine except for Aperture. It wants a serial number. I still have my old computer so I opened Aperture, found the serial number and input it. Aperture says that it needs the original serial number (Aperture 2), not the uprgrade (Aperture 3). This apparently is only found on the original Aperture 2 box. That box is in storage in another state. I spoke to an Aperture specialist at Apple Support. They said there was nothing that they could do, and that I would have to access that box in storage.

THIS IS ABSURD!!! I have all Apple products and programs. I have a cloud membership, everything is purchased and registered. Why would Apple make it so difficult for me to use a product that I've already paid for and registered.?! Of course they have my serial number on file somewhere, otherwise how could they validate that I was using the correct one? What's the point of purchasing and registering the product if Apple can't even help me in a situation like this. I just paid $1700 to Apple for new computer. I want to be able to use the Apple programs that I've also already paid for.

You're not really asking a question and your tone is a off putting especially as you are talking to other users here and not Apple, but its December so what the heck

Have a look atPro Application Replacement Serial Numbers for what you need to do to get a replacement serial number.

In the past Apple has been very good at helping folk out getting Aperture going again. But if your attitude on the phone is anything like your attitude here good luck.

Thanks for your response, and I genuinely appreciate you trying to help.

But, I think I have a right to be frustrated. I was very patient and friendly with Apple Support on the phone. It never crossed my mind that they wouldn't be able or willing to help or offer any suggestions. I use Aperture as part of my work. Now I'm stuck. Apple seems not interested at all in trying to help... It's not their problem, I should have known better. I've been a loyal Apple customer for years, and I have never encountered that attitude before.

You're right it is frustrating especially when you get blindsided with something like this. You figure a migration should be fairly painless and then you need to be digging around for serial numbers from way back when.

However have you given the web page I pointed to a try? Like I said Apple has in the past been helpful in getting this resolved. Maybe you just got someone having a bad day of their own 😉

good luck
