Water damage

Hey, I recently spilt a soft drink over my mac mini, I have dried it out for 5 days in rice and it works as usual apart from when I plug it in the fan roars and wont stop. I have tried several fac control programs such as smc fan control etc. None have had any effect at all. What should I do? Before anybody mentions it I have reset the smc several times and nothing has changed. Thanks In advance.

You may have damaged a fan sensor or a fan itself. If that is the case then a hardware repair is necessary. Of course if your machine was under warranty or AppleCare you have invalidated both as water damage is not covered, it's considered owner abuse.

However I would recommend doing a SMC Reset at least 2-3 times. For instructions on how to do this reset Google:

Intel iMac SMC reset.

Good luck!

Running a mini without a fan, though on a different cost scale, would be like driving your car without coolant. Sooner or later, you will pay dearly. Also, at some point, that fan may fail in its current state.

If you live near an Apple store, set an appointment for them to evaluate your mini fan issue, and if necessary, provide a repair estimate. It is better to be proactive than stare at a paperweight you could have prevented.
