mac mini 2012 sleep

Hello all,

I finally decided my iMac (first Intel) was getting long in the tooth and bought myself the 2012 mac mini i5. I have made a couple modifications: 1) updated to 16gb of ram from Crucial and added a Samsung SSD.

I've noticed that the mini doesn't sleep like the iMac. It seems to have two sleep modes: one where the light pulses (same as iMac) and then the other happens later when the light stops pulsing and goes off completely. It's from the second mode that the computer does NOT wake. Hitting a button on the keyboard or mouse causes the mini's power light to light up, but the monitor stays dark, the mouse stays unlit and I cannot ping or telnet to it so presumably the ethernet port is still out.

A bit of research shows that one mode is sleep and the other is deep sleep (or hibernate). The thing is, hibernatemode is set to 0:

Active Profiles:

AC Power -1*

Currently in use:

standby 1

powerbutton 1

womp 0

autorestart 1

hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage

networkoversleep 0

disksleep 10

sleep 15 (sleep prevented by )

autopoweroffdelay 14400

hibernatemode 0

autopoweroff 1

ttyskeepawake 1

displaysleep 10

standbydelay 4200

I'm not sure, then, why the machine is doing anything but the normal sleep. Can someone with the same mac mini do a pmset -g in termal to see if they have similar settings? Anyone else seeing this behavior?

I'm seeing something similar. I have the Apple Bluetooth mouse and trackpad, and a i7 Mac Mini. If I leave it for a while it won't wake up. I'm not sure if the light ever goes off; it seems to be on and not blinking. If I hold the power button for several seconds it seems to restart and I don't see any errors, nor does it make the normal boot sound. So I think you are right that it is hibernating. I'd rather it didn't; I plan to keep it in a spot that isn't very accessible and don't want to have to keep using the power button.

Right now I can't access it to check the settings or logs, but will do so later.

After posting this question I found similar information elsewhere so I tried setting autopoweroff to 0. This still didn't stop the mini from going into hibernation. According to the man page of pmset, hibernation shouldn't happen if it's set to zero, irrespective of any other setting. This definitely looks like a bug to me!

This morning my Mac actually did wake from deep sleep and power everything on, though I'm not sure if it was just a fluke. I'm going to try setting Standby to 0 and see if that finally stops the deep sleep/hibernation thing. I can't imagine I've saving much $$$ by not powering down the memory anyway and the wake is unreliable thus far.

I'm going to set standby to 0 and see if that makes a difference. It appears to be directly related to that setting since I watched the mini last night and it was about 70 minutes later (4200 seconds) that the machine went into hibernation. New settings:
