For some reason whenever I send a text a stupid pink flower icon appears.  I've gone into System Preferences, Users and Groups and changed the icon and have also done it in my Contacts, yet the same flower icon still appears in every text message.  Can someone solve the mystery?

Open the Messages app and from the Messages menu, click Messages > Change My Picture

Or simply drag and drop the image of your choice onto the flower image (= your profile picture) in either your user account or in your card in Contacts.

    Hi Lousy Fool,

    That will not work.

From the Set Up of the first Admin User  it works in reverse but after that you can change them individually.

That is to say that on Set up you are asked to choose an Login Pic, either from the selection or a Snapshot.

As you enter email info  then the Contacts (Formerly the Address Book) My Card is set up and uses the same pic.

Then if you set up Messages it will pic the My Card pic as first choice.

After that you can choose the Change my Pic item in the Messages App Menu or use the Buddy List(s) current pic to change.

System Preferences > Users and Groups with Contacts > My Card and then Buddy List over the top.

Well, it does work for me. Yup, it does, just tried again to verify I'm not talking BS here.

In System Preferences -> Users & Groups, with my user account selected, I can drag any JPG or similar from e.g. the desktop or the Finder window over the image "frame", drop it there, and then I can scale and position it.

Same in Contacts with my contact. Or others, for that matter.

I can do this whenever and as often as I wish.

Oh, and why should it not work?

    Hi,

    Hummm.

I just tried it on my Mountain Lion iMac.

Went to System Preferences > User and Groups > My accounts and clicked in the Pic to change.

    Chose the pink daisy thing.

The My card and Buddy list pics did not change.

    As to why...

That is probably about the way I have got to where I am.

During various version of iChat I have changed my Pic serveral times (possibly mnay times as in some Group chats I have changed it several times alone).

It has been the sig pic since iChat 4 at least and has been either Updated to new OS version or the Account Migrated as it has been to the iMac.

This means that com.apple.ichat.plist holds the current Pic and the path to Recent Pics and the associated .plist for that.
    See ~/Library/Images/iChat Recent Pictures

It also seems that in Mountain Lion it also pulls the "Recent Lists" for the System Preferences Account pic as well as the Contacts > My Card one.

See this pic and the Pink Daisy thing

The Current pic always stays but the Recent Items lists the last choice wherever it was made.

I would guess if there are no other Recents  set up by other means then the Current one will change.

Having set mine individually there seems  to be no way to link them all again  (obviously I can make them all the same but they don't all change at one then).

May be we should change it to "If you have made changes to the various Pics invidiually you may have to change them individually" ?
