Cisco VPN SLOW

Hi everyone,

I have established a VPN connection using moutain lion's built-in cisco IPsec in the network settings pane. I am able to connect to my company server by going to the server smb://xxx.xx.xxx, but loading a list of files (like when I open a folder) in the finder is extremely slow (minutes). In Windows, the file list loads right up (less than a second). In fact, if I run parallels desktop while I have my VPN connection established on the Mac side, file lists load instantly on Windows but takes minutes for the same file list to load up on the Mac side. What's going on here? Same computer, same network, running parrallels side by side and the Mac side is slow but the windows side is working fine...any ideas?? THANKS!

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Dual 2.8 GHz Quad Core, 16 GB RAM

Thanks. I tried everything in that post but still very very slow browsing and no change. Any other ideas? Really stinks cuz like I said, in windows on the same computer same network running side by side, everything runs fine. Even on my iphone using the netportal app, file browsing is very quick...but not good on mac...makes no sense :/

The only other thing you can do that I know of is to try Cisco's own VPN client, if it exists for the current version of OS X. If you get the same results with that client, then you should contact Cisco tech support.

Cisco's client doesn't work on 64-bit chips, apparently, so thats why I was using the built-in VPN on OS X. I'll try screwin around with some router stuff later, and in the meantime, just use parrallels as a work around. Only problem is if I'm on the go, my weeny macbook air doesn't have room/power to run parralells. dah well.

When your MBA is connected directly to the company network (not via VPN), do you have the same problem with SMB browsing?

Hi everyone, merry christmas/happy holidays/happy kwanza/happy haunaka/happy festivus/etc.

So I still have not really figured this one out. If I connect my MBA to my company network directly, everything is still slow. Then, when I connect my ifone to the company network directly, everything runs smooth when I run the netportal app on my ifone to browse through my company server. What's the deal? There's gotta be something silly going on my Macs with SMB.

boooo. well, thanks for tryin. Is there some app on my mac I can get that functions as an alternative finder that might work better when connecting to a network drive using SMB?

Not that I know of. I doubt that the issue has anything to do with the Finder. Your network administrator should be dealing with this problem, not you.

my network admin doesn't know how to use a computer so that's the problem. Also, I'm kind of rogue on this since our company" doesn't support macs." is there ANYTHING on the mac I can do? I mean, again, running parralells, it's all good on the windows side...and it's all good when running on the ifone. it's gotta be some problem using the SMB protocol because my mac accesses my personal network drive just fine using http. thanks again for everyone's help.
