As the title says, when I have my headphones plugged in and the phone is NOT set to silent the ringer for text and calls comes through the speakers. When silent is on, they come through the headphones. The behaviour I was used to on the 3GS is that no matter what, if headphones were plugged in ALL sounds go through the headphones. Is this something they changed since the 3GS or is my phone working improperly?

You are either mistaken or your 3G was not functioning properly. So long as the switch is not set to silent, the phone wil ring even if the headphones are attached. Of course, the ringing also goes through the headphones... Maybe you just never notieced before.

Thanks for the reply. I've read elsewhere that the 3GS having all the sound go through the headphones when plugged in is normal, so I'm not sure that I'm mistaken. Unless of course many of the 3GS models out there were not functioning properly. Either way, if this is the way the iPhone 5 is supposed to work then I'm happy.
I did notice the sound coming through the headphones on the iPhone 5, but it was hard to hear since the overall volume of the phone was also set low.
