Tethering...does it cost me extra?
If I turn on my iPhone 5 for tethering with my MacBook Air or iPad, will that cost me extra? I'm with AT&T.
iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.1

You would have to have a plan that included this feature

I see. So with just my iphone data plan, that would not cover tethering, correct?
Thanks! I'll check with AT&T.
Look on AT&T's web site - hotspot/tethering is an additional $20 add-on to a smartphone data plan.
Oh, and if you have unlimited data, you'll have to give it up and go on their Data Pro or some other limited data plan to get tethering as well.
Thanks for info. I just confirmed that with ATT too. I currently have unlimited data so there is no chance I will drop my current plan to get a lower data and pay more.

That's strictly your choice. However, with ATT's throttling users that use somewhere between 2-3GB per month, IMHO keeping the unlimited plan at $30 or going with the 3GB plan at ALSO $30, what's the difference?
On the 3GB plan, IF you want to tether occasionly, all you have to do is kick up your $30 plan/3GB to $50/5GB and you're in business. I dumped my unlimited plan for this option as I view it a no brainer at $30/$30. Otherwise, I would still have my so-called unlimited data plan.
Now, if you live in some area where ATT does NOT throttle high volume users, maybe keeping the unlimited deal is the way to go. AFAIK, in my entire IP career (3G, 3GS, IP4, IP4S and now my IP5), I've never used more than 2GB monthly and thus, have never been "throttled". One of my friends who has been throttled says it's like being back on dialup.
