Unable to attach "...img." (not recognized)

I try to mount an image file with an extention" .img" using disk utility, but each time having the error " unable to attach...img (not recognized) ".

The file is not corrupted cause I was able to (and still) mount it on my old computer operating with windows ..

I have spent my last 3 hours searching for a possible solution but so far I couldn't.

So decided to start a new topic.

-tried verify disk

-tried repair disk under first aid menu on disk utility

-checked if its "locked" under get info menu when right clicked.

-verified and also repaired disk permission for my Macintosh HD.

-the file I try to mount is a computer based training material so not an anti-virus aplication and I didn't download it using safari or chrome

Any idea ?

I am also having this exact same problem; a number of disk images I kept from several years ago were in the .img format. They are not opening at all with OS X 10.4.11 or higher and they say "image not recognized".

I have also tried them in older emulators like Basilisk and Sheepshaver, where a couple of them worked but most of them do not.

When I examine the Creator/Type of these files, they are "Wrap" and "rohd". The ones that worked were "Wrap" and "dimg". I have tried changing creator and type to match, but continue to get the corrupt message.

I either used an old version of OS X or something in OS 9 to make these many moons ago. I may have used Toast, but that won't mount them either.

I am reading a post that says the resource fork may have been lost. I had burned them to a CD a long time ago, so it's possible it's messed up beyond repair. I am slowly working on it so hopefully can get something figured out soon.

I am not sure and I am also not so familiar with OS X..I looked it up and think they are supported by OS X.

There are some similiar post and I figured out that some people also having the same problem.Somehow they solved their problem but the method they suggested didn't worked.

One suggestion was to change the file extention ".img" to ".iso" and then using disk utility. But this doesn't helped me neither.

Supposed ".img"files are not supported by OS X,I think there should be an alternative way like an "application" or "converting" to be able to work with that file.

the conversion from" .img to .iso" is also possible on mac os x with disk utility.I watched the video on youtube and tried this, too. I followed same instruction yet,the problem still arises. The error is"not recognized"

What I am gonna try now is try the "conversion to iso" on windows and gonna try to mount the iso file on mac os x.

This is really killing me,cause I really wanna know what the problem is..
