I'm considering purchase of either 21.5 base iMAC with 16 mg RAM  or the 27 iMAC just to have the flexiblity to expand the system later.   The Fact is I'm a little tight on cash and would rather purchase the 21.5 with 8 gig RAM if I thought I would not have to wait for video rendering.  I do a lot of video editing for client corporate videos, more like news packages but i can see getting more in to creative elements of video editing.   Advice?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), considering 21.5 or 27 imac

Every iMac for the last 4 years has had more than enough power to run FCP X well.

Just to amplify my original response, the basic iMac will be fine but obviously if you can stretch to the 27" that will be better and give you more cheap upgrade possibilities.

However, don't expect the 27" to blow your socks off. Whilst it will be faster, it's only going to be marginal.

Thank you Mr. Brown, context is a wonderful thing and blown socks might now be worth the $500 or even $300 difference between the base or base plus RAM on the 21.5.  Afterall that $300 can purchase FCPx or a thunderbolt external so I just need to make a decision and not turn back
