How long takes a full recovery of a time machine backup?

Hey there,

I got some problems when restoring my Time Machine backup to my new MacBook Pro.

The Backup is from an iMac (with 10.8.2) which is sold and I bought a MacBook Pro instead so I want to restore the backup on it.

The problem is when restoring it "stops" after aprox 6.5 hrs. I mean the computer just stops doing a thing. (I think so...)

It says just under a minute till it's complete but that's here for more than two hours...

this is how it looks like (in german)

I don't know If it's normal and I just have to wait a couple of hours or If it's unusual.

I really hope you can help me!

Wenn du es nach diesem Dokument machst, sollte es funktionieren.

ja, so wie es dort steht habe ich es auch gemacht. Ist halt nur ne Frage ob das normal ist dass er kurz vor Toreschluss noch Stunden weiter läuft...

(translation: yep I did it just like it's mentioned on this site. the question is If it's normal that the assistant does not do anything further when reaching 6.5hrs or running but showing it might end in under a minute......)

Nein, das ist nicht normal. Ich für meinen Teil bin schon mehrmals mithilfe des Migrationsassistenten und TimeMachine auf einen neuen Mac "umgezogen" und hatte dieses Problem noch nie. Wie auch immer, ich hoffe, dass es dir mittlerweile gelungen ist.

Also ich habe es jetzt geschafft allerdings nicht über TM.

Habe normal das OS installiert und dann habe ich manuell alle Daten vom TM-Laufwerk rübergeschaufelt. Copy & Paste. Einige Sachen muss ich jetzt zwar neu installieren aber was solls. besser als nichts.

Die nächsten Backups werde ich wohl nicht mit TM machen. TM ist zwar super um einzelne Dateien wiederherzustellen aber eine full recovery naja.. bin da jetzt ein bissl enttäucht...
