sharing files between users

Yes there is. When you start iTunes or iPhoto hold down the either the Command or Option key (Sorry I forget which one) and that will bring up a dialog box where you Select What Library to use for that program. Select the Library in your Wifes user folder area. Then you will have access to it from your username account.

That has nothing to do with what the OP was asking. You might want to read the original post before making a reply.

To add if you use TM for backups it backs up the complete system so any changes you make in YOUR User account will be saved and re-applied when, Not If, the drive or system fails and you have to restore from the TM backup.

It doesn't help with the OP's first question....😕

IPhoto will likely be something similar, but I don't use it and can't find a reference at the mo.
