What is a good audio interface under $400 to use with krk rokit 5's?

Will the apogee one work? Apogee duet firewire (old model)/focusrite scarlet 2i2/m-audio fast track pro too?

And is the quality really as bad as eveyone is saying if you plug them in directly using balanced trs cables, rca red/black splitters, etc.?

It partially helped, so thank you. It turns out the best way was to connect monitors is through an audio interface with xlr cables for each. I don't understand how you would connect any apogee one interfaces with studio monitors without some weird splitter, so I ruled those out. I'm think going to go with an avid/m-audio fast track c400. It has some mixed reviews, but for the price I can get it for, I don't see why not. It has 4 inputs and 6 outputs and records at 24 bit/96khz.
