Q: disk utility repair permissions recurring

I always have this permission to repair and its repaired, but when I verify again, is still there

Permissions differ on “Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are drwxr-xr-x .

Repaired “Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin”

Is this normal ?

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 4 GB 800 Mhz

That means that the item's structure has changed. Ignore it.

There is a lot of that in "Repair Permissions." Just ignore them.

There is almost never a reason to repair permissions. Are you seeing some behavior that leads you to believe there is something wrong with your permissions?

Don't Repair Permissions and you won't see it. It will also not cause any problems.

I don't know why it says it "repairs" things that it doesn't, but they don't matter and are not wrong in the first place.

Ignore the disk utility??? I hope that's not an answer to a question because I have the same issues with disk utility. Why does it repeatedly identify permissions errors - repair all but one of the permissions -  and on verification, repeats the same incorrect permissions needing repair???

As an owner of several Apple products I would appreciate an answer to the problem - why does the disk utility inaccurately identify java/adobeflash issues? If this is a product "glitch" it needs, at the very least, a patch to correct the problem.

On the other hand, if this inaccurate information is a built-in error, I have been sold a defective product and must demand a replacement or refund.

So, as you can see, suggesting I just "ignore" the problem presumes I have a defective product that needs replacement or refund.

Well, that's a pretty unbounded extrapolation for what I stated, and entirely not what I stated.

It's been explained here hundreds of times. The Repair Permissions database is ignorant of all changes made to the system. Anything that Apple has changed since the particilar component was installed for the first time it has no idea about. It can't "repair" things which it knows nothing about.

What exactly are the permissions errors that it reports? As I don't waste any time repairing permissions when I don't need to, I don't know what those are.

    Good luck with that.
