Issues with PDF Services Automator Workflow Files & Exporting Custom Book from Aperture for 3rd Party Printing @ Blurb

Hello,

(I know this is long, so my actual questions are highlighted in red.)

When I go to MacintoshHD/Library/PDF Services and double click my "Save PDF to folder as JPG" workflow file, I receive the following error message:

"The document “Save PDF to folder as JPEG.workflow” could not be opened because it is damaged or incomplete."

I receive the same message when trying to open the "PDF to Aperture," or "PDF to folder as TIFF" workflow files.

Anyone know why these files would be damaged or incomplete? I have never visited this folder before today, so nothing has previously been tampered with.

The reason I needed to access these files today is because I am trying to export a custom book layout I made in Aperture in order to print through a non-Apple print service: Blurb. The default "Save to PDF" print option seemed to diminish the images' quality noticably and the "Save PDF as JPG/TIFF" print options were not working (which I discovered was due to the damaged/incomplete workflow files in my Library described above).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------

Here's how I solved my problem and what my other question is:

After much online research, I was able to download a new "Save PDF to folder as JPG.workflow" file from Aperture Expert's FAQ page, replace my damaged one, and voila, now I could save my custom Aperture book pages as JPG files.

Here's the link to download the workflow file: http://www.apertureexpert.com/faq/common-aperture-questions-issues-and-rep/workf lows-save-pdf-to-aperture-save-pdf-to-folder-as-jpeg-ar.html

However, the quality was still lacking. So I then increased the DPI of the JPG files from 200 DPI to 300 DPI in the workflow file itself. (See this YouTube video on how to do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE367g6zWnU).

My problem now is that even after doing this, I think the JPGs exported from Aperture (using the "Print to PDF" menu and then selecting "Save PDF to folder as JPG 300 DPI") still do not look as sharp as my original JPG files. Is it possible that the workflow file first saves the Aperture page as a PDF, then converts it to JPG? If so, is there some compression that occurs when saving to PDF? Is there a way to edit the "Save to PDF" workflow file to make sure it is lossless/best quality so that images retain their peak quality as well?

Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Jen

P.S. If anyone is interested in creating a book in Aperture but ordering through a non-Apple-affiliated printing service, here are some resources:

1) Here's a link to an article that describes how to create a custom book in Aperture and then print as a "PDF saved to folder as JPG" that could then be printed anywhere. http://www.apertureexpert.com/forum-user/post/1229285#post1229817

2) Go to http://www.sarafrancephotography.com and get her "Custom Book Design" video for $40. Here's the beginning of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtBVO3FBupk
