error 46 and error 1904

I have been trying to install itunes & quicktime for a new nano. I keep getting error 46 - "could not load or find the Quick Time ActiveX Control", and I get error 1904 - Module C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTOControl.dll failed to register when I try to install standalone quick time. I previously had a itunes & quick time for an ipod and mini that worked fine. I have uninstalled everything, run windows installer cleanup, tried every fix I can, but still get same error messages. Can someone please help???

Error 46 is an XP permissions issue and not a Quicktime or Apple problem.

Solution: start>run>regedit in XP

Use care not to fatally screw up registry!

Find five top level "HKEY" entries in left column.

Right click each and click permissions.

Make sure permissions include at least the following for each "HKEY". Don't reduce any existing permissions. I got these from my Dell laptop where Quicktime worked for all users. Made these changes to my SOYO desktop and Quicktime now works for all users.

Be sure to apply changes.

"ROOT"
Administrators --- Full, Read
SYSTEM --- Full, Read
Users -- Read
CREATOR OWNER -- Full (sub keys only) Use advanced edit.

"USER"
Administrators --- Full, Read
SYSTEM --- Full, Read
"prime username" -- Full,Read
RESTRICTED -- Read

"MACHINE"
Administrators --- Full, Read
SYSTEM --- Full, Read
Everyone -- Read
RESTRICTED -- Read

"USERS"
Administrators --- Full, Read
SYSTEM --- Full, Read
Everyone -- Read
RESTRICTED -- Read

"CONFIG"
Administrators --- Full, Read
SYSTEM --- Full, Read
Users -- Read
CREATOR OWNER -- Full, Read
Account Unknown -- Read

When done restart and Quicktime should work for all users.

You may have to uninstall Quicktime and reinstall it. Be sure to use same user as when it was installed.

This may take care of error 1904 too but I never had that error to begin with.

SOYO Pentium 4 Windows XP This error has been around way too long!
