Applications problem: "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."

Hi all,

RE: Applications problem: "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."

Until recently, I have not encountered this problem. And I am facing this problem for both my iPad and iPhone.

I only have 1 iTunes account and the most recent change was that I switched the location from Singapore to UK (I'm currently in the UK). I also updated my applications a couple of times before since the change in location, so I doubt it's due to the location change. I've tried signing out of the account in the iTunes accounts on the devices, then signing back in. I've also tried restarting the devices (and for the iPad, I even updated the iOS).

Any idea what else I can do to try to rectify this?

Thanks and regards,

Tammy

I also found a solution. If it can't update your app, you need to go to app search in App Store, type the app name and then press update there. It will ask you for your password again and then will update it. Usually after that, you can update them all but if one doesn't work and it says again you don't own the software, just go back to App Store, type the app, your password and should work.

I get the same error message when I try to update Pages and Keynote. They came with my new iMac and they need to be updated right out of the box but the update fails. Numbers was bought in the same deal and it updated OK. Where is Apple in this email thread? Instagram can't help me, Apple can't help me, guess I should have bought a Dell instead.

Same problem with Ukrainian AppStore.

Few months ago Apple open Ukrainian appstore. Previously users was in US or in Russia stores. Of course most of us and me too pass to new appsote. Everything was fine but problems came one week ago. I try to update from a seach tab, but Apple charged me for my Pages again.. That's not correct! I have bought all my apps and haven't choise to use AppStore of my own country..

Huh? You seem to be a bit confused. This thread is about iPhone and iPad apps - not apps that came installed on your Mac.

Also, this is a user to user forum only. Apple are not here.

Finally, what made you think Instagram could help you with updating Apple apps on your Mac? They are totally unconnected.

Have you tried contacting Apple directly or posting in a Mac thread about your Mac app updating issues? You can download Mac Pages, Numbers and Keynote updates directly from Apple's downloads web page: http://support.apple.com/downloads/

Still having the same problem and it's on my laptop. The annoying thing? I have ALL the original apps as most were free. I now have 11 apps that need updating and getting this ridiculous message. I signed in as myself, using my full Apple ID email address. There's no reason for this to happen once you're logged in. Apple, please fix this. I've had no issues upgrading my apps til now. This is really stupid, careless, and very incompetent.

Thank you.
