Importing selections of a clip with in and out points in Media Importer
Using the media importer, I cannot choose a selection of a clip and import it as I used to in 10.05. Or is there a way?

Is this a clip from a camera or camera archive? FCP could never make a selection on a clip imported from a hard drive.
This is an import from a file in a hard drive. Like Tom said, FCP X has never had the capability to make a selection in this instance. It can do it for importing directly from camera or from a camera card or a camera archive, not individual movie files.
WOW! Really? That is ridiculous. So If I have a quicktime of a 22min show and need 10 seconds of it I have to import the entire clip? Come on Apple.
You can get your 10 seconds by using MPEG Streamclip and then importing to FCPX.
Drag your MOV into MPEG Streamclip, then set playhead at in point, type i. Then set playhead at out point and type o. Then use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME in either the original codec or in ProRes 422 and this will produce a file you can import into FCPX.
You're importing a file from a hard drive. There isn't a single application that allows to import part of a file. It's like saying you only want to open pages 5, 7, 42, and 36-39 of a document.
