The iPad 4 was released in a number of countries on 2nd November. The iPad 3, which also has a retina display, was released in mid-March this year (I think that it was the 16th)

The original retina display iPad was the 3rd genration released 16 MAR 2012. That was replaced by the 4th generation announced on 23 OCT 2012 and released 2 NOV 2012.
