Q: Can't set up hot spot

My Apple store rep said I could connect my iPad to my cell using the cell as a hotspot without having to buy a data plan  I could simply use the data connection to the cell kind of like Bluetooth  each time I try to connect it tells me to call AT&T who says I have to buy a plan. I have a cellular iPad

Thanks

The hotspot ability depends on your carrier. some offer it free. others charge, other's simply don't offer it. If the option is available on the phone, then it should be useable.

However if you are getting that notice, its best to call AT&T to sort it out. Its their data plan, and option to enable it or not.

The hotspot fee is indeed up to the carrier as stated in the writeup below from the iPhone User Manual.  I do believe AT&T charges a fee.
