Q: App store downloads

A year ago I purchased an air that was a few weeks old and immediately registered it with apple.

Last week I downloaded and installed mt lion from the app store using my itunes’ account and when i then attempted to download updates for iphoto, garageband , etceteras I was asked  to log in with the original buyers’ itunes’ account, which of course i cannot do.

Apple support advised me to download updates direct from their apple site which i did to only see an error message that updates for this computer must be downloaded from the app store. So, i am left with a computer that cannot have apps updated, which of course is ludicrous.

Perhaps a simple solution is to disassociate the original itunes' account from this device and thus allow my itunes' account to have its legitimate access and download privileges, though I receive no response from apple when suggesting that solution. In the event apple cannot come up with a solution it may mean that all buyers of pre-owned mac devices that must use app store for updates and have been previously linked to a an existing itunes' account will be unable to download upgrades, and that has serious legal and PR ramifications.

Anyone have a solution suggestion?

Thank u
