All of a sudden, I can no longer drag pics from iPhoto to my external hard drive. I've done this with no problem for at least six months, and now, can't do it. The hard drive is a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1.5 TB. It has a 3.0 USB cord. No issues up until now. I can still drag music to the external with no issues, but fro some reason, not photos. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try exporting - select teh photo(s) in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export)

Are you trying to drag the album icon or are you selecting the photos in the album and dragging them? One can't drag the album icon but must select the contents of the album and drag them.
However, one can select and drag an Event icon and it will copy the contents of that Event to where you dragged it.

Good day! the same problem and I have! If you select multiple photos and drag them to the USB drive, but even to a new folder on your desktop, there is no result! Tried to create a new user on my Mac, went under it and it worked! Please help me.

The interesting thing is that for the first year I have had the external hard drive, this was my routine:
1. Have iPhoto and External Hard Drive both open
2. Create and name folder on EHD
3. Put cursor on folder of pics on iPhoto I wanted to copy
4. Click, hold, drag, and drop in folder
5. Copying automatically starts and finishes
Now, in order to copy, I have to open the particular folder on iPhoto, select all, copy all, then go to the EHD folder and select paste.
This isn't much more, but I guess I'm wondering what happenend on my EHD or iPhoto to make the "drag and drop" inaccessible all of a sudden?
And again the better way is to
try exporting - select the photo(s) in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export)

Yes everything is OK, thank LarryHN! But this is not the solution, and bypass it) on the same Mac, in the same program and the same update, but as a different user, and dragged all copied. Then the problem is in some settings or uploaded applications.

No one knows - but I'm guessing it is a bug and may be fixed - however I still would recommend export for a number of reasons including being a better defined access method that gives you much more control of the results

Remember that copy/paste or drag/drop from the iPhoto Window only gets your iPhoto Preview. These are not full quality or size and are missing a lot of metadata.
this quality enough, not all have such a thirst for gorgeous pictures. I shoot in RAW format, and friends copy in JPEG.
Run the iPhoto repair process (launch iPhoto with the Option and Command keys held down) and select the first option, Repair Permissions.
