Q: An error has occurred

My App store app recently started telling me there were updates to install. When I checked, it showed me that Numbers had an update. However, when I tried to install it I got the message "An error has occurred" and on checking I discovered that my Numbers app was already up to date. I can't get rid of the update message and I'm regularly being told that I need to update this app. Suggestions on how to cure this would be welcomed.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), also: 16 GB iPhone 5

Step #1. Make a backup of your iOS
Step #2, Delete the app, then re-install

Works now? If a disaster arrises, you have your backup to restore from.

Sorry, I appear to have misled you. The error is on my MBP not my iPhone.

None of this ever seems to work. I have had this problem from time to time and it seem more like luck when it decides to go all the way through with the larger downloads, any thing over 4 gig.
like now i'm having the same problem with Borderlands, I have found a faster internet connection seems to be more reliable.
