My new 27" iMac will be delivered next week. It is configured with 2X4Gb. I've ordered 2- 8's to add for a total of 24 Gb. Should the 2- 8's go in the now occupied slots and move the 4's to the empty slots? In otherwords, possibly force the 2 - 8's to be used first? Does it matter?

Not sure what you mean by should work just fine. Should I put the larger RAM in the current occupied slots (moving the ones there to slot 3 and 4) or just add the new RAM to the current empty slots?
Does it matter as to speed of access or anything with a full 16 GB in slots 1 & 2 vs 8 GB when the computer has a total of 24 GB?
It won't matter which slots you install the RAM in as long as they're paired. So just put the new RAM in the empty slots.
