compress 16x9 hd QT movie to mpeg2 4x3 and burn dvd?

Seems like this should be easy. I have an HD, 16X9 QT movie that I want to burn to a MPEG2 Data DVD, to air on local community access channel in 4X3 format. I have tried different settings in compressor but every dvd I burn will not play on my Imac, saying I need additional software to play the dvd I just burned on my Imac. Thanks!
