how do i connect my printer to my imac?

How do i connect my printer to my imac, i realise i have to connect the usb cable and select the printer in the options to print. But although the iMac is communicating with the HP D2560 printer it is only printing a limited amount of txt and will print colour but only pale black/ green. Printer levels indicate that the ink is ok.

Any Ideas please?

Hi Skippins,

A few questions for you, which OS X version are you running, and did you install the proper drivers for your printer?

Check out these drivers, if you feel that you did not install the proper drivers.

10.8.2 Eric . I have just downloaded the Hp sw suggested by GarlandM and tried to print , all I get it the 'greyed out' bit of an email with my details but none of the sender or message. This was pretty much the situaltion as before, do I need to activated the newly downloaded sw.......?

Thanks for your interest and help with my problem.

Once the software is installed, you shouldn't need to activate it.

This has worked for some people. Go to System Preferences/Printer & Scan. Unlock the preference if it is locked. Delete the printer using the -. Restart and then go back and add the printer again.

This is as Apple article that has some trouble shooting suggestions in it and shows what printers are supported:

You are welcome and thanks for the thanks.

Reading your post it sounds like you have a problem with ink supply. While you mention having plenty of ink, this does not mean it is getting to the paper.

Do you know how to perform a nozzle or print head test print? This will show if the ink is moving from the tanks to the print heads and then on to the paper. The test may be available via a HP utility. This could reside in the Applications folder or you may be able to access it via Print & Scan > Options & Supplies > Utility. You may also have access to the test via the printers own keyboard/control panel.

If the print test shows all the colours then at least you know that it is not a hardware issue. But as I mentioned, from what you have said about the lack of colours on your prints it sounds to me like an ink supply issue.

Hello Eric, I am making progress and think that the sw is loaded correctly, having done what you suggest. Although ink levels indicate ok I am going to do as PAHU says and clean the print heads. I have just printed a letter head with a colour logo, this has come out fine if somewhat faded but the main txt which was black has not printed at all. I have done this earlier at the start of my problems, I now see that I have a message that says the cleaning procedure could not be completed contact HP.

The message would suggest a problem with the current driver. I suggest you unplug the printer USB cable and then reset the printing system on the Mac. To do this, open Print & Scan and then move the mouse over the Printers column. Then hold down Control key and click the mouse. Select Reset from the popup menu. This will remove the printer from Print & Scan. With this completed, close Print & Scan and then restart the Mac. After you log back in, connect the printer USB cable and then open Print & Scan. The printer should have been added again automatically. Now see if this will let you perform a print head clean.

Also check if you can use the printers control panel to perform a clean. Many printers provide this option.

HI PAHU

i felt it only right to let you know I solved my printer problem. In spite the printer ink levels showing more than 70% full. The black ink was completely out. I tried to print on my dell laptop and had the same problem. So I changed the black cartridge and it worked.

thanks also to GARLANDM, and apologies for being a dingbat!

happy 2013 to you all.

PS I am still trying to sync my hotmail account over all my devices inc iPad, iPod touch, dell laptop, nokia phone and imac.

how do i connect my printer to my imac?
