Camera connection kit and MIDI

I'm using iPad 2 with the camera connection kit and an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 MIDI keyboard. It worked at one time, but now it doesn't .Was there an iOS upgrade that broke it?

iPad reports that the Connected Device Requires Too Much Power so I plugged a 9V adpapter into it so it is DC powered and not powered off the iPad. The same error comes up.

MIDI triggering doesn't work with GarageBand or any other app.

Any ideas, anyone?

I don't know when you used it last, but there was a firmware upgrade in 2011 that reduced the amount of power allocated to the 30 pin port - and with that the ability for the iPad to recognize and work with many USB devices that had worked before (even more confusing, articles are still out there saying such and such will work, but they were written before the upgrade)

the only work around I've seen some suggest is to use a powered USB hub, but if you've already tried that then you may just be out of luck

It was probably a while ago that I tried it. My gear has changed and I now need something more portable.

I have a cheap MIDI>USB cable that seems to work (for now!) along with a 9V adapter. I just wanted a one-stop shop arrangement to work and the Camera Connection Kit would have been idea.

Thanks for the reply, Skydiver. It's better to know that it won't work than to figure out something that 'should'!
Cheers!
