No internet connectivity from certain WiFi Hot Spots

I've been unable to get internet connectivity using Tim Horton's WiFi on my MacBook Pro.

I can select the Tim Horton network but when I launch my browser nothing happens.

I've cleared cache and cookies, restarted laptop and a few other things, Not able to get on the Internet no matter what I do., My iPhone -was- able to connect without issue. This is odd isn't it?

I've tried Safari and Chrome to no avail, I am being given an IP address but get no further than that, The Tim Horton's join network page never shows up. Nothing.

This has happened to me at 3 different Tim Horton's.

I use my laptop at -countless- hot spots and have -never- had a connection issue... only at Tim Hortons.

I don't know what's going on but something is not right. It just happened to me this morning. I left Tim Hortons and went to Panera. BOOM. Instantly online.. Same with McDonalds which is right across the street from Panera. I can get on both places. But not Tim Horton's. Any ideas why?

I don't know if this helps, but I did capture a log of the attempt to get online...

I am back g the same issue. It seems the se uti g settings at Tim Hortons are not at least WPA2, so my iPad doesn't trust the connection. I have tried all the suggestions other than reset the router, which I so much want to do.

But, I can log into apple.com from my galaxy 7 phone and receive the security code on my iPad.

Makes no sense.

Just like your question. Instead of tagging onto a 5 year old thread you should start your own thread and provide details of your system, connection, and error.

Clinton, thanks for the suggestion of trying NetSpot. The application sounds like it might be helpful for general network assessment although I'm not sure if it can provide much assistance in this situation.

I believe the internet connectivity issues I'm experiencing have more to do with whatever kind of "sensing" that the router/hotspot uses. Generally when I go to a new hotspot, after choosing it in my list of avalable networks, a hotspot window will automatically open asking for my agreement to the terms of useage. That never happened at the hotspot I was having trouble with. I was able to choose the hotspot, had an excellent signal strength and was assigned an IP but never got any further than that.

So I'm not sure what NetSpot will be able to do for me in that situation but I'll download it and try it.

If there is indeed a web page that opens where you have to agree to service terms at this Tim Horton place get the web address. After you choose the hotspot launch your browser and type in that web address. Hopefully you will get the terms of service page to come up. Then bookmark it.

HI

I had the same problem with my new Ipad mini - tried 2 different Tim Horton's and finally 3rd one had a tear off info sheet about Tim Hortons WiFi - too bad the first 2 restaurants weren't that helpful. It had a toll free number - 1 855-383-2539 so I called it from the restaurant and the person was able to walk me through it no problem. I can't remember all the steps - took a couple of minutes- but it had to do with cookies. There were two choice for signing up - one would be good for a year and you would not have to go throught the registration at all the other restaurants.

@omni80: Great to have the phone number. Thanks.

I've actually avoided Tim Horton's as this has happened at every single Tim Horton's I've been to since this incident. I basically give up. I'll keep the phone number handy in case I have no choice but to use a Tim Horton's hotspot though.

I hook up to hotspots all over the place and have never had a problem such as this. If Tim Horton'ts can't get it together It's just easier for me to avoid their hotspots. If the next time results in a positive experience, I'll pass along any tips that I can discern.

Was in the King Edward Hotel last weekend and they wanted to charge for internet connection in the rooms. We did not want to pay, but when my Daughter opened the ipad mini it was good to go on their Wifi no problem. My phone ( not an iphone) had a message that I would have to pay to connect with my phone. Has worked great everywhere else, accept when the systems were overloaded - like a busy restaurant with all kinds of people on their lap tops.

I have also been experiencing this since I bought a newer MacBook Pro and upgraded to 10.8.5. I can connect to the internet through WiFi on my home network but can no longer connect at Tim Hortons McDonalds Starbucks etc. Tried Safari, Chrome, Firefox - no internet connectivity. It connects to the Wifi but not to the internet. The sign-in pages that normally appear do not appear, just the spinning beach ball of death in Safari and error messages in Chrome and Firefox.

The days of Plug and Play are long gone. THIS *****. I am on the road a lot and need internet connections.
