Windows open on projector - have to unplug.

This is driving me nuts. I have my classroom imac connected to an epson projector. When I want to share the screen (mountain lion) I mirror the displays. When I want to use my computer at its native resolution, or want privacy I unmirror the displays. I often have the projector powered off, and the imac connected to it. However many applications (have not yet detected a pattern - seems random) open their windows on the POWERED DOWN projector. The only way I have found to gather them so I can use them is to disconnect the display. This is a pain, as I am constantly fiddling with cords on the back of the mac during my day.

Is there anyway to get the mac to ignore the projector (powered off) even when connected?

Yes the imac is primary in the displays prefererences. (ie title bar appears on my mac, not the projector).

Even an app that gathers wind

Hi Brian, might try this...

On Lion you can toggle Mirror Displays using fn+Cmd+F1 (provided you are using the media control keys as default).

Or a couple of AppleScripts...

Thanks but that doesn't help. I have a script for toggling mirroring. My problem is using the Mac with the displays unmirrored, app windows will open on the non active projector screen. If I'm mirrored I can see the window but I can't move it back onto my screen because it's mirrored. What am trying to do is use my screen only during nonmirrored activity. Without having to unplug the external display.
