I need to upgrade my MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.8 to the newer Mountain Lion.

I am currently operation OS X 10.5.8 on my MacBook Pro which I purchased in 2009. Is it possible to upgrade to the new Mountain Lion OS? How do I manage this, if it is possible, without losing all of my files and photos. I am not techinally inclined at all! Please Help 🙂

I did a time machine back - up...should I back up my photos (that's my biggest worry) seperately?

I have the Snow Leopard disk - so I will do that upgrade and see how that goes 🙂
