How can I play .flv files on my MacBook Pro w/Mountain Lion installed?

I have several video clips that are flv files but cannot play them with QuickTime because they are not compatible. Does anybody knoe of a software that would play them in mountain lion?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

VLC media player can play these files and many others.
